Magdaly (Parga) Gonzalez (9 December 1943 - 16 July 2024) Magdaly “Maggie” (Parga) Gonzalez, 80, of Scotch Plains, NJ, passed away peacefully on 16 July 2024. She was born in Palma Soriano, Oriente, Cuba, and emigrated to the United States at the age of 18. Magdaly held various jobs in New York City and New Jersey, including as a factory worker and data processor. Affectionately known as Wella or Lela, Magdaly was a fiercely devoted grandmother to her grandchildren, who were the unequivocal loves of her life. She was affectionately referred to as the "official grandchildren’s family lawyer," always ready to offer sage advice and unwavering support. She loved the simple pleasures in life, including the music of Freddy Mercury and Jose Jose, and true crime, "Judge Judy," and "Dancing with the Stars." She was also notorious for keeping her surroundings cool, preferring a brisk 60 degrees at all times. Magdaly's culinary skills were legendary, and she delighted in cooking for her family and friends, ensuring everyone went home with leftovers. She had a knack for making everyone feel like family, whether they were related by blood or chosen bonds. Magdaly leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, cherished by her extensive family and friends. Her recent 80th birthday celebration was a testament to the profound impact she had on those around her. She would often end conversations with her signature positivity and kindness, saying, "You are THE BEST." But those of us who knew and loved her knew that SHE was the best, leaving an indelible mark on all of us. Magdaly is survived by her two beloved sons, Nelson and Sergio, and her honorary "favorite son" Joel, as well as three grandchildren, Victoria, Valentina, and Mateo. A celebration of Magdaly's life will be announced at a later date. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered for the love and light she brought into this world.
